” This sounds brilliant – I absolutely love it. “
Hi Marg – The Celtic style piece sounds really quite different and exciting. Especially for a capella voices. [after hearing the first piano draft]: This sounds brilliant – I absolutely love it. Rhythmically it is so exciting and I can hear the Celtic theme coming through so well. The harmonies are brilliant too – I think it will really suit the choir!
Choral piece written for The Invicta Voices choir for the Equator Women of the World festival – premiered at Kings Place, London Oct 2016.
The amazing Matt Bamford conducting the wonderful Invicta Voices during their first rehearsal of my Celtic Choral, which they commissioned in August, and then premiered in October 2016 – despite a very rough bad score from me. Thank you Matt & Invicta!
NB. Have re-scored it, so this needs a new performance! (We weren’t allowed to record the concert, unfortunately.)
Invicta Voices first rehearsal (extract) – so exciting hearing it come to life!
Thoughts behind the lyrics
Inspired by this concert being part of Equator’s Women of the World festival and therefore cross-cultural; and after the shock waves and uncertainty following the Brexit voting – bringing with it incidents of heightened suspicion and prejudice. Imagining what it might be like for us to have to leave our homes and our country. Then go on a journey, not knowing where we might end up or who we’d come across; what cultures, experiences and values they might have. And how we could quite easily view them with suspicion and fear.
But then eventually realising that we have to live and work together, where our different worlds become one.
